Subject: Charice’s Pyramid. Seen Katie Holmes lately?
Content: Charice’s Pyramid. Seen Katie Holmes lately? Last revised 09 March 2010 at 0920 hours Seen Charice’s Pyramid music video with rapper Iyaz yet? I can’t get enough of it; I’ve been watching the same for the last 2 days, most of the time. 300 views, complete plays would not be an exaggeration. I’m referring to the YouTube upload by Charice titled “Charice - ‘Pyramid’ (feat. Iyaz) Music Video” and where I got the comments I cite (02 March 2010, youtube.com). I understand from nlubay that Charice mouthing out Iyaz was supposed to be excised from this promotional video “but they liked her expressions and feelings for the song” so much they included it. I say they have good taste. I for one love those parts where she is lip-synching Iyaz. ( “Lip-singing” is what kadijaomer calls it and it’s okay by me; in fact, it’s a good way of describing lip-synchronizing, which is what this is all about.) Now, here is Charice really lip-synching! Is she having fun at the expense of Iyaz? No, she’s having fun, that’s all, the teenager that she is. Now she’s singing her age and shaking her booty, and she makes me happy too with her glad heart and lively spirit. Isn’t she lovely! Grown up now, she looks to me like a young Katie Holmes . Just look at her! Before I wrote this little piece, I was anticipating the coming of the 500,000. Yesterday, 07 March Sunday in Manila, at 0635 hours, the number of views for the Pyramid music video was 377,182. Today, Monday, at 0702 hours, the count was 450,797, or 73,615 views for the last 24 hours or so. Then, at 2000 hours today, it was 497,995 views. Then, wham, at 2115 hours, it shot beyond the half-million mark: 504,583 views. That’s about 88 views per minute in between those 2 figures. Liars will figure, but these figures I believe. If you’re not familiar with it, getting new views is easy. Because I bookmarked it (I’m using Safari as browser), I click it once and it plays anew, not replays. I understand replays are not counted? In case you are not familiar with this Apple browser, the reason I love Safari is that it has both substance and style, you know, like Princess Charice. Style is the complete Charice. I invite the doubters and naysayers of Charice especially in my country the Philippines to watch this music video just once, in a complete run. If they won’t approve of it, I’d say theirs is a hopeless case of jealousy. What did Elizabeth Bowen say about it? “Jealousy is no more than feeling alone against smiling enemies.” Charice smiles at you, whoever you are, and I assure you she’s not enemy! In the meantime, Chasters, let’s go for the next 500,000 views! Posted by Frank A Hilario at 10:38 PM 0 comments google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad); Poetry in motion. Charice sings her age, Pyramid! MANILA - Charice, look what you’ve done! With what happened and what’s happening to your music video of Pyramid (youtube.com), you’re just too much! ellelesrose says, “You are the Sun that shines over the Pyramid, you are the waves that keep the ocean alive, you are the rainbow that appears after the rain.” Isn’t that genius? You’re a Big Girl now. I’m delirious that gone is the little girl who sang “Shine” and lost in Song #1 in Round #1 in Little Big Star , and whose star dimmed for many empty days that she could not relate to the world outside her room, not even to her Mommy Raquel. That gone too is the little girl who became a wild card and who took the rest of the rounds of that million-peso singing contest by a storm - until the Grand Finals, when they told her she had lost by popularity vote. Heartbreak Hotel. If I said it before, let me say it again anyway: Popularity, how many crimes are committed in thy name! Yet today, we forgive you. Because it is more blessed to forgive than to receive. Today, we have that young lady who has grown up - but not taller, she jokes to Boy Abunda (she is 5’ 1”) - to whose life too many things are happening at the same time I have to group and number them - for my convenience, not hers (she has a fantastic memory, according to David Foster , her mentor, or, which is the same, she learns fast). Mostly from the YouTube video upload and comments, these are the latest news on The Most Talented Girl in the World - are you ready to learn from her? (1) Charice is caught lip-synching. (2) Charice mimics herself. (3) Chasters transform YouTube into a chat room. (4) Charice’s Pyramid gathers views; a storm gathers. (1) Charice lip-synchs who? Finally! Now we have a video, official at that, that shows Charice lip-synching (youtube.com), cross my heart - and loving every second of it, like 15 seconds long? She is lip-synching Iyaz , with whom she’s doing a duet. If you haven’t seen it, go watch the video and judge for yourself . Don’t forget, she’s a master at mimicking other voices; remember the Alvin & the Chipmunks? It’s great fun. Well, I admit I wasn’t the only one who saw it. kadijaomer says, “Ahaha, love that part when Charice is lip-singing while Iyaz is singing. So funny!” Here is the full lyrics of Pyramid as sung by Charice and Iyaz (courtesy of metrolyrics.com); note, however, that like Charice, I have changed 1 word in the song, from “Shawty” to “Shorty” because that describes either Charice or Iyaz, I mean physically. It’s those lines that begin, “Like a Pyramid …” where Charice pantomimes Iyaz. nlubay says Charice’s good-mouthing Iyaz “was supposed to be cut off & out of the scene, but they liked her expressions & feelings for the song so they included it.” That would have been murder most foul ; it’s the part that I like the most myself! Pyramid As sung by Charice & Iyaz Shorty’s love is like a pyramid (ooh) We stand together till the very end (eh ooh) There'll never be another love for sure (ooh) Iyaz and Charice, let we go Stones, heavy like the love you've shown (shown) Solid as the ground we've known (known) And I just wanna carry on We took it from the bottom up (no, no, no) And even in a desert storm (yeah) Sturdy as a rock we hold (oh) Wishing every moment froze Now I just wanna let you know Earthquakes can't shake us Cyclones can't break us Hurricanes can't take away our love Pyramid! we built this on a solid rock It feels just like it's heaven's touch Together at the top (at the top baby), Like a pyramid And even when the wind is blowing We'll never fall just keep on going Forever we will stay, like a pyramid Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh (ooh) Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh (ooh) Like a pyramid like a pyramid eh, eh (oh, oh). Cold (cold), never ever when you're close (close) We will never let it fold (fold) A story that was never told. Something like a mystery (yo!) And every step we took we've grown Look how fast the time has flown A journey to a place unknown. We're going down in history! It’s a delight just to watch her. I’ve been doing just that 200 times probably, in the last 36 hours, sleeping little. I’m still playing that song, Our Song . I’m just guessing, I stopped counting at 1. rhyzzhy says, “Same with me … my hubby asked me, “How many times do you need to play that song?” I don’t know. I stopped counting! (2) Charice mimics Charice? “It doesn’t really sound like her,” says muhbelle14 by way of comments to the music video. So! Charice is mimicking herself, like she mimics the Chipmunks? There is a related, interesting development. Jenny notes (aatheory.com) that Pyramid did not come out on New Year’s Day as promised, but the next day (02 January 2010), the song’s demo leaked onto the Internet . This prompted Swedish songwriter David Jassy , who co-wrote Pyramid with Lyrica Anderson (produced by Twin) to tweet: “Leaked Pyramid demo on YT is not Charice or the final version. U’ll love it! When U’re waiting for something good, U never wait too long.” Later, David updated his Twitter account and posted what he said was the real Pyramid demo with Charice’s voice. Jenny says, “After fans listened to both, they felt the demo that does not contain Charice’s voice, is really her because the voices on the two versions sound similar.” Whatever. Charice herself has promised that her 1st international album ( Charice: Pyramid) will be “ very youthful ” (Katharine Evangelista, 06 March 2010, inquirer.net). Now, in the music video of the title single Pyramid, here comes somebody who looks like Charice trying to sing like the Charice that we know? Not so. I have already said that Charice is a creative artist; she has just made a paradigm shift , or should I say, a performer shift , from singing like the adult ladies she adores to sing like the teenager that she is. I guess what I’m trying to say, ironically, is: Charice has come of age! She has grown up by growing down. I love it! In other words, if you can’t get rid of Charice singing like Whitney Houston, like Beyonce, like Jennifer Hudson, like Regine Velasquez, like Mariah Carey, even like Michael Jackson, in Pyramid, Charice is mimicking the other Charice. I love this other Charice too, you know. She’s like a daughter to me, even if I already have 8. No, Charice is not mimicking Charice in Pyramid; she is Charice the teenage girl who is about to turn 18, who is happily anticipating her debut. “Sing me a Happy Birthday!” she asked us in that Valentine’s Day concert Meet & Greet at PICC; “my birthday is coming.” And so we did, happily, for our little princess. kamusta77 (charicepempengco.com) says, “ Wow, I can't stop watching over and over again . This video is awesome. You look so natural that you are having fun while singing. While I’m watching the video I keep on smiling because of your energy.” In 2010, Charice is poetry in motion, I dare say. On page 11 of the 01 May 1006 issue of The New Yorker , Rolex advertises its Oyster Perpetual Day-Date male watch, with prodigy Lang Lang and his piano, saying: Some people create poetry without ever picking up a pen. Lang Lang’s technical command of the piano is unquestioned. His boundless enthusiasm leaves audiences breathless. He has introduced classical music to an entirely new generation of listeners. All reasons why this young pianist has joined the ranks of the world’s best. Maybe they should add poet to the list as well. Even better, Charice is our prodigy, as well as the world’s . She has been creating poetry with and without picking up a pen. If you haven't tried, listen to her anytime sing any song. And you should have seen her dream journal. Ah, if I were you, I wouldn’t dare question Charice’s technical command of her musical instrument, the voice. No auto-tunes, please! Her borderless passion leaves her audiences breathless. She has introduced oldies but goodies music to all generations of listeners, not just the new. All reasons why this young singer has joined the ranks of the world’s best. We should add poet to the list as well! schnittertodd says, “Come on guys stop bickering already. What you're doing is like fighting over thanksgiving dinner, disagreeing over little things instead of appreciating and the festive treat. Let's not ruin the celebration. Why don't we just revel in these two young musical geniuses and engage in uproarious festivities. Celebrate Charice's triumph. Quit fighting over style. Be awestruck by their substance. ;-) In other words, with her Pyramid music video, promotional or professional, Charice has rewritten the major rule in making musical video: Substance first, style second. That is also a basic lesson in communication - singing, painting, writing, even acting. (Did you know she is 1st Year in BA Communication, a college scholar at a Massachusetts-based online international University? Evangelista tells us.. She has been studying at least 2 hours a day.) She’s Smart, Very Smart. That’s mostly from me. And yes, it’s a great song to begin with. And yes, it fits our debutante Charice to a P: Perfect! And by the way, Charice is good listening to; she is better watching on video - she is best watching live, as in a concert. (See my “Charice! We were bombarded by your embrace ,” 16 February 2010, Pinoy Cinderella.) What do the rest of the fans say about Charice and the Pyramid music video? Here are some I selected from 6,187 comments and counting (as of 0747 hours Monday in Manila). I picked those that are positive in message or in meaning, those that are optimistic, and those that describe what they think Charice is doing or has done with Pyramid, not simply saying “awesome” or “fabulous” or “fantastic” but explaining why. Negatives? Delete! Enjoy reading comments from these Charice fans below. Please note that I did not follow a strict sequence and I edited where necessary, and took away all those double dots and triple interjections and allcaps . Note also that a username or two may appear 2 or 3 times - that’s because that Charice fan is talking much sense and does not repeat himself or herself. More importantly, let me warn you: Here, the fans make you feel you’re on top of the world with Charice; I say they are worth their weight in gold - ttbayo says, “She's scary; has not reached her full potentials, yet she is very impressive and a versatile singer even at a very young age. Soon she will dominate the music industry, no doubt about it.” taifaijai says, “Excellent collaboration. Charice is beautiful here and her miniDiva attitude is just impeccable.” animyteX says, “Best thing about her is her enthusiasm. You can clearly see and hear her love for the music.” tattada says, “Charice is in her playground. Having the fun of her life making hit music. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Her smile just melts the heart. It's like the Rugrats playing inside a carton/box. It could be a spaceship, a car, anything. The possibilities are infinite. Imagination is the only limit. All the way to the top of the pyramid.” justathoughtaway says, “Congrats kiddo. You sing it with so much gusto. I feel the song too as I listen to it.” jim155fan says, “Confidence and fun. That magical smile. I love this video. Shows me all I need to keep the smile on my face.” mikedamz says, “IMO this video is perfect! Simple and honest … no more CGI stuff. It’s all about Charice and her music. Again, just listen to the music. It’s awesome even without the visuals.” gmking2 says, “Fun, uplifting, and heart-warming. Charice and Iyaz have created a fantastic sound.” 1980taylan says, “That’s what you call confidence! Don’t you think it will be as good as this if she’s not doing the right thing!” darkangst says, “This video is very sunny. It reflects Charice's bubbly personality. Did you see her left uppercut after she belted pyramid? :) Cute. This is perfect just the way it is. Simple yet telling w/ no drama and unnecessary gimmick.” jamesd0180 says, “I like the pizzicato strings in 1:08-1:18, and the uplifting spirits you two have in singing this song, and an inspiration from two upcoming artists!” mahiligmanood1974 says, “Charice and Iyaz are enjoying themselves in making this promotional video. And that's what we like about you, Charice. We can feel your emotions on your songs. That makes me want to listen to it more. Aim high Charice :) Reach for your Goal. Be on top as in a pyramid. :)” lantaoislands says, “This is my dream song, This is my dream music video, This my dream moment to see Charice, This my dream moment to be a true Chaster, This is my dream come true right here!” chasfan510 says, “Charice & Iyaz nailed this song. Catchy lyrics that will make you sing along and shake your booty to the melody while driving. Just imagining the real MTV video with Charice dressed like Cleopatra and Iyaz like a Gladiator dancing and singing in front of the Pyramid of Giza with camels break-dancing in the background. We see a different side of Charice.” cheeky602 says, “She is soooo natural! And Iyaz is great keep it up guys.” joaquin66 says, “She is so bubbly.” philippin0 says, “Charice is adorable messing with the song. She really enjoys her life to the fullest. In person she's funny and friendly. She treats her fans like her friends. She can be a great comedian & artist at the same time. But singing is her forte. So she's just a happy girl to be in the music industry. She doesn’t think about fame. But she just sings from the heart to entertain people, to make them happy and inspire them in any way. Charice is truly a real artist because she's versatile.” MrFirstKnight says, “(Don’t) you mistake arrogance and boastfulness with confidence and passion.” hajj74 says, “It's called "confidence." This is what some Pinoys are lacking, the ability to perform on top. Charice performs like music is her blood.” SideburnerSol says, “Charice you look like you're having the time of your life! Love how animated you are! God, how I wish that the beautiful smile you have in this video will spread to millions around the world!” redbutterfly22 says, “This music video is devoid of special effects, not like what we normally see in any MV. Yet, inarguably, Charice's and Iyaz's gestures made it look awesome, something that one would never grow tired of watching!” lecheto says, “Love this song :) It really suits her. Even my dad who usually doesn't like ‘new generation’ songs liked this one :D” viviansim73 says, “This's song's awesome! She looked so happy while singing which makes me happy just looking. ^^” corybingo2 says, “Love that you are having a blast singing your own song.” mytimeandplace says, “Superlative! Gotta love that bright, sunny smile. It’s a real treat to get to watch a genuine display of feelings. Charice, you exude a joyful vibe that is sooooo infectious!” tofifiness says, “0:38-0:39 she's obviously having so much fun doing this video, I love her endearing smile here. 1:11 is another one of her natural self having fun, and finally at 1:35 my all-time favorite angle smile of hers. Beautiful ^_^” beccha05 says, “2:17-2:27 an energetic random display of her playfulness, a character so natural for a teenager having lots of fun. I must know, for I have 2 wonderful teenagers who make me feel young at heart and my life a real blast. Charice is a natural wonder, and she adds a ton of joy to my everyday life. : ) . This so much fun. BeckyM.” 8jerboa says, “This is just a promotional video but it's a beauty. I love the facial and hand expressions, the body movements, neck and shoulders shakes and even though Iyaz is not smiling but Charice’s well-timed smiles complete the song's message - the happiness and joy of loving. It's so infectious watching these two creating melodies in harmony. This, really makes me happy and I love the song because of the way it's interpreted, and Charice never fails to give an enjoyable entertainment which music is all about.” xxANobodyXx says, “I love how much fun she has singing. It's adorable.” cooldjjm says, “I can’t explain the happiness of Charice in this video. She always smiles and smiles!” philippin0 says, “Charice supports charitable organizations in the US and all over the world like Operation Smile. She always devotes her time and effort to those needy. Not she's only a great artist but a kind-hearted young lady at 17 who helps underprivileged children. She's very down-to-earth and doesn't think about fame. She just wants to sing to entertain people and to inspire people who have talent. She knows where her heart is.” erinlovesai says, “You just want to keep coming back to this video, listening to her and love the joy that just radiates from her here.” nlubay says, “Her energy is oozing compared to Iyaz.” tattada says, “Charice has the moves, the expression, energy, enthusiasm, and pizazz that there is no need for cheesy overproduced video effects to present an awesome music video. This is genius.” 8jerboa says, “Charice is a genius in singing. She just naturally knows how to translate music/melodies to body/hand movements, neck and shoulder shakes, great facial expressions and most of all the expressive eyes and a great smile. All of this combined with the golden voice and singing style gives you the ultimate entertainment. Oh what a joy to behold! Oh Heaven! Chasters we're blessed to have a great musical idol in our lifetime. There's just no other way but to the top, baby.” (3) Chasters transform YouTube into a chat room. Amused, considering the thousands of comments on Charice’s upload of her Pyramid music video, and seeing familiar usernames, CHARAQSTER notes that Chasters have virtually transformed YouTube into a chat room. Let’s chat, still on top of Charice’s Pyramid: MrPasensya says, “If this goes on, this video will have a million views in less than 2 weeks. Then maybe they'll not make any more video because this is already well received anyway :-) I like it as it is by the way.” 8jerboa says, “See how Charice sing her song very much into it. She just translates her emotions to hand-body-eyes movement and the it's so entertaining. It's her nature to sing with emotion. If it's a sad song you'll see her with tears and yet able to blurt out beautiful melody. Now, this Pyramid is a danceable pop love song and Charice is showing joy and happiness and festive mood trying to convey the true meaning of the beautiful lyrics. This is amazing and great!” tubeyou2007 says, “Pure Bliss. I actually love this stripped down raw version of the videos. You can see pure happiness. Just the way it should be. The song just feels damn good inside, if you know what I mean :)” crewsnest says, “Most refreshing song :)” kympotsky says, “A song that fits her age!” redbutterfly22 says, “I adore Charice & her bubbly personality & I'm very happy that it was shown in this promovid. She's confident, not arrogant. She has all the right to be. She's truly this generation's most talented girl. I'm so proud of you! Iyaz was amazing too! Love you both!” Can't wait to see Ellen dancing to "Pyramid" at the beginning of her show and Charice surprising her by coming out and singing live. Just my imagination. Come on Charice - time to appear on Ellen again.” WebScribes says, “I'm 100% Irish and 100% Chaster - My friends are Chasters, my relatives are Chasters, the people sitting around me at the Dodgers' game were as blown away as I - The people Chanting "Charice, Charice, Charice" on Io Canto were Italian - did you notice the Koreans at Star King - Charice is truly Global because of her talent & charm & character - not because of her race.” beamoomilk says, “She changes her genre a lot. I didn't see her doing this. But she totally pulled it off :)” mytimeandplace says, “Diva pop + Island pop = Awesome Mix. At first, I doubted the idea of pairing up two talents with totally different vocal styles. But having heard the song, I must admit that I absolutely like how Charice's sweet, powerhouse vocal is met by Iyaz's cool, laid-back tones. Kudos for this concept. It's pure brilliance!” kellogs1912 says, “Love this song. It makes me feel sooo good. Charice moves soo smooth. Soo fresh and soo natural. Awesome duo. Up To The Top Charice! IWALY.” taifaijai says, “The Iyaz feature gives this song a hip urban feel.” shaynepnay says, “Nice, something different from Charice!” complixate says, “Very, very nice video, indeed!. It's simple, devoid of those ostentatious, pretentious, and often absurd scenes of many music videos today. This one is straightforward, natural and does not rob the song of its beauty. Kudos to Charice and Iyaz!” shtupnistn says, “I really like Charice's swagger! She's so fun to watch especially when she's in her element!” RepublikaMaharlika says, “It’s really scary when Filipinos show off the killer uppercut not only in boxing like Pacquiao but as Charice demonstrate @ 2:40-2:50 in singing too.” Lmaj76 says, “Awesome! Nice Job Charice. Tell your manager or Mr. Foster himself :) this song should be promoted to local stations here in the U.S. .I think this will be a hit! You sound and looked so "natural" in this video .I like it when you sing ballads I.e. Whitney etc. But I think you should sing more songs like these. Gives your fans a glimpse of you. You should be marketed up there with Miley Cyrus. You go girl!” crewsnest says, “I can't help but smile throughout this MV. Charice is just enjoying the moment. No streSS whatsoever.” noaj23 says, “This video reflects her natural talent and love for music.” bien031 says, “Charice is so relaxing to watch. She's havin' fun (w/c she rightfully deserves). The song is very catchy. I feel like dancing and singing. Go Charice. Just don't mind those haters. Think of those who love you. I love you by the way! ^_^” schnittertodd says, “Come on guys stop bickering already. Together at the TOP Charice & iyaz! ;-)” jnmdanderson says, “Simple video but nice. Charice appears so happy singing this song.” SideburnerSol says, “Beautiful song. So refreshing to see a super talent that doesn't just present a natural and approachable image, but walks that walk every day! Labyo Charice!” TheJonclint says, “whoaw. ohhh Charice you've got my taste in music upbeat and meaningful.” USgirlfriend says, “We need to support Artists with real talent. Her vocal skills and musicality, her ability to perceive differences in pitch, rhythm and harmonies sets her apart from the wanna-Bs.” cinderella0621 says, “You’ll get pulled with how Charice and Iyaz are enjoying themselves singing/recording this song.” gmking2 says, “It's refreshing to hear vocals that aren't overshadowed with busy over visualized videos. This is simple, highly talented, and beautiful vocals. A+++” o7307o says, “Masterpieces have been drawn in charcoal.” hknutube says, “The most talented girl in the world indeed.” seefyhalo says, “Great singing plus cool song. The song highlights Charice's powerful voice but never overdone. The kind of song you want to listen to over and over again, it's infectious.” hajj74 says, “Let 2011 Grammy be caught off-guard by Charice's innate talent & charm.” ganie1231 says, “Charice, I love your confidence in this MV! How I love every time you smile.” SideburnerSol says, “Charice & Iyaz; you are two extremely talented artists and together you have created a musical masterpiece! Pyramid is not only a beautiful song musically, but the character of the song is beautiful as well. I respect you both immensely for your commitment to recording positive, feel good music. Congratulations to you both on your well-deserved success! Love your motto. At the top baby! Labyo!” RepublikaMaharlika says, “You’re looking at the 1st Asian Breakout artist that will topple the "glass ceiling" of the mainstream music industry. Not an Asian-American, or even lives not in America. A full-blooded Pinoy will topple that very ceiling that prevented a lot of Asians and Asian-Americans crashing into the mainstream US industry. Mabuhay ka Charice!” nuevaecija100 says, “She is now a citizen of the world. She is for Philippine consumption no longer. This is why America wants her to sing more.” rhyzzhy says, “It’s a great song with positive message from a pure raw talent with a humble heart and beautiful spirit. People can't avoid loving it.” (4) Charice’s Pyramid gathers views; a storm gathers josie854 says, “Wow, this video of Charice is #4 top-rated music global, mostly in North America, Australia and New Zealand.” (As I take note of that, it’s 0506 hours Monday in Manila.) DaileenCute says, “Hope all Filipinos will show support to Charice. Together we stand, divided we fall.” Ah, my dear Daileen, whoever you are, as Shakespeare would say, “To sleep - perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub.” That’s I write with passion, because most Filipinos either don’t give a damn, many ignore her, or try to put her down. evemarie1107 says, “ I don't think they pay attention to Charice's international career or her career at all. Her own country is not even in the Honors list of Most Viewed video. I find that odd.” It’s not odd, evemarie1107; that’s just us Filipinos. Why do I write? Because we Filipinos are impossible! Which I take as a challenge; nothing is impossible until you challenge it. Why write if there is no challenge at all? The bigger the better. Why sing if it’s only for your own enjoyment, or only for money, or only to win recognition in your own country? While Charice’s Pyramid gathers a desert storm of views, 458,222 as of 0747 hours Monday today in Manila, translating into an average of 90 views per 60 seconds since 14 hours ago, a storm gathers in her own extended household, involving her grandmother Tess Relucio , mother of Mommy Raquel. Charice, little brother Carl and Mommy Raquel have been supportive of Tess (Charice endearing calls her “Inay,” literally “Mother”); they have assigned a door to her in Charice’s 7-door apartment, but she has not had kind words about her own daughter - and has complained with the Department of Labor, as well as told the media (07 February 2010, abs-cbnnews.com). Tess has publicly accused Raquel of shenanigans, that she had physically abused Charice so that the child would go with her, that she has boyfriends (plural) and has been spending Charice’s money on them and, in fact, somebody stole some money from Charice. Raquel says her mother simply wants control over the earnings of her granddaughter and she’s not getting it. On The Buzz (ABS-CBN) TV show hosted by Boy Abunda and Ruffa Gutierrez , Charice denied all accusations of her grandmother (28 February 2010, youtube.com). No, she was not angry at all. She had this message to her (I’m translating freely from Tagalog): Inay, always take care. You know we are always here for you. You know we had the apartment built. The apartment is of course in my name, but we shared with you one door, so you don’t have to work, you can just take it easy at home. We are concerned about you and I hope you don’t think of things other than what is good for our family. Charice is not just a pretty little girl; she is mature beyond her years. Boy Abunda tells Charice: “Charice, your mother is going through much. She has given you everything, her time, her everything,” but she has been receiving a lot of flak, criticism, bad words. What do you want to tell your Mom? (Italics are my translation, direct quotes are Boy Abunda’s.) Charice says: I know she’s brave. If I were in her situation, it would hurt me much. I can feel her pain. All I can say is, “Stay strong.” Because she can expect more of the same. If many people disparage me, many more censure her, because she is my mother. And more people now distrust her. So I want to say, “Stay strong .” We are always here, my brother Carl and I, to support you, for you to be happy. “Because you deserve to be happy.” (Direct quotes are Charice’s own words.) Pyramid! You ask: Why Pyramid, when pyramids are thousands of years old and Charice is only 17 years old, going on 18? The metaphor, baby, is not about age but about being steadfast, commitment - and aiming for the very top. Like Charice herself would joke about it, “to the highest-level very top” (See if you like my “1st Solo, America. Charice is in the heart ,” 12 February 2010, Pinoy Cinderella .) 3 sides make a Pyramid. Raquel, Charice, Carl. Happily, Charice sings and shouts, “Pyramid!” When life rocks, remember the Pyramid is the most solid structure on Earth. Remember the foundation of your Pyramid: God. Yes, the lyrics of Pyramid have moral implications. It is time to shout to the world: Pyramid is about true love! “There’ll never be another love for sure” - “What God has put together, let no man put asunder.” No separation, no divorce. All very Roman Catholic! (Charice is Catholic. She along with her family often goes to Quiapo Church in Manila to pray.) “Pyramid! We built this on a solid rock” - “Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.” And remember the parable of the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. Is your foundation rock or sand? Build your love upon a solid rock! “A story that was never told / Something like a mystery” - Those who favor divorce or have elected it know not true love, a story never told to them, something like a mystery to them who are unbelievers, doubters. Without their Pyramid, hey have no foundations. gangstanozila says, “I see Charice so happy in this video, and I’m happy too despite all the troubles in her life.” Charice has the love of her Mommy Raquel, of her little brother Carl, and the Chasters, doesn’t she? She certainly does! (I’m one of the Chasters, you know.) “It feels just like heaven’s touch” - True love is like that. The Filipinos have a saying about love; we Ilocanos call it “Luto ni Apo Dios” while the Tagalogs call it very similarly, “Luto ng Diyos.” Manna from heaven. A delicious, delirious meal from God. Pyramid! When you pray, bringing your palms together, you make a Pyramid. Pyramid is the Way to the Top. mhima61 says, “Charice rocking a humble studio … and Iyaz reaching out from higher ground.” (Iyaz makes a triangle with his palms as if praying.) Here’s for you, Mommy Raquel; here’s archiemrIV reminding you; here is your daughter Charice singing for you: And even when the wind is blowin’ We never fall, just keep on goin’ Forever we will stay Like a Pyramid! Like a Pyramid! Like a Pyramid! Charice's Pyramid music video is up! You'll enjoy it . A new Pop/R&B star diva is born by the name of Charice, a 17-year old International singing sensation who was discovered on YouTube, deeply adored by Oprah, and musically mentored by David Foster. After blowing the roofs off the places around the globe where she has performed and sending standing ovations across the audience with her break-through renditions, she is offering her original song entitled “Pyramid featuring Iyaz". In history, Pyramid is the largest existing structure in the world ever built by men in the early beginnings of human civilization. If you climb it, physically and figuratively, it symbolizes superiority or success. Coincidentally, Charice is beginning to make her steps to the top of the music charts with her debut single that talks about a relationship metaphorically built upon solid rocks that can withstand mother nature’s disasters like earthquakes, cyclones or hurricanes. The song (written by David Jassy and Lyrica Anderson) also features Iyaz, a 22-year old R&B singer who gave us the smashing hit that got stuck on our ipods with numerous play counts – “Replay.” This track by two talented young artists will surely make you groove to the melody, dance to the beat and clap your hands in the air.
